About Us

The goal of SCRUBS - ASDP is to draw the best and brightest to the medical profession, in particular, surgery. SCRUBS - ASDP aims to train a highly diverse group of the most promising undergraduates, medical students and surgical house-staff to become the future leaders of surgery through research, teaching, mentorship and shadowing opportunities. This program will have a longitudinal core curriculum as well as innovative practice based program (team action projects) that provide hands on research and leadership training.

Get Involved

There are a number of ways to get involved in SCRUBS:

  • As an undergraduate, you have the option to shadow surgeons in their clinics.  Please note, undergraduates are allowed to shadow in clinic only, only University of Michigan medical students are allowed to shadow in the operating room.  To learn more about shadowing options, please visit our website:
  • Also, as an undergraduate, you can get involved in research by applying through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP).  UROP coordinates research partnerships between undergraduate students and University of Michigan researchers, several of which are in the Department of Surgery.  Please view their website for more information, eligibility and research opportunities.  Please address any questions you may have about UROP to their office:
  • As a medical student, we have a variety of programs for you to get involved.  Please read more about our programs by clicking on the Program link on the side menu or here:
