ASDP has continued its relationship with the Health Science Scholars Program (HSSP), a pre-professional program that introduces first-year undergraduate students to key issues and the breadth of careers in the health sciences by bringing them together with professional school/graduate students and faculty from a broad range of backgrounds, interests and experiences.

This past fall term, we hosted the undergraduate students in the Clinical Simulation Center where our surgery medical students and residents taught them knot tying/suturing skills as well as gave them opportunities to experience laparoscopic box trainers and virtual reality simulators. These students also have many opportunities to shadow surgery faculty who are very willing to introduce students to their respective disciplines.

This summer, we also hosted high school students who are part of a pre-college enrichment program at UofM called Summer Discovery, in the Clinical Simulation Center.

Dr. Helen Kang Morgan is the director of HSSP.
